Chamonix, at the base of Mont Blanc, is one of the greatest ski towns in the world and a hub for expert skiers looking for adventure. From town you can take a tram atop the Aiguille du Midi, with a guide, and ski the vast glacier of La Vallee Blanche, among other famous routes. The Chamonix Valley offers access to an astounding amount of terrain suitable for all skier abilities, ranging from Domaine de Balme (2270m), Les Grands Montets (3275m), Funivie Monte Bianco (2462m), Aiguille du Midi (3842m), and Domaine des Houghes (2624m). On the Italian side of Mont Blanc is the Domaine de Courmayeur (2624m), to which you can ski from France. Though all of the ski areas are not interconnected, it is easy to ski them all when you hire skis in Chamonix, giving you access to over 400km of slopes, and 50,000m of vertical accessed by over 100 lifts.
